Latest Read!

Recently finished The FIVE DYSFUNCTIONS of a TEAM
A Leadership Fable
wriiten by Patrick Lencioni

You can read and respond in this book. I plan to use it as a professional development tool. The chapters are educator friendly and meant to be discussed and responded to informally and honestly! This fable is designed to send a powerful message about what to do if you are striving to be an exceptional teammember and/or leader. Magnificient storytelling at its best!

How important is your team to you?

  1. i think the book is brilliant in that it applies to any team, i've found that many of his books are geared towards only the buisness class, which tends to put me off. while i realize education has similarities to business, i like to think we take a more human approach to it all, whereas business to me conjures images of being all about profit and loss. at any rate, as opposed to directly answering your question i'd like to respond to an implied question based upon your post. to me the question isn't 'how important is my team', rather the question becomes 'is it worth it'? it's the ultimate risk/reward situation. i'll take fear of conflict as an example, when looking at your team is fallout from a confrontation of this nature going to be worth the potential benefits? tough question to be sure, at least it is to me. ditto for lack of commitment. with respect to not ruining the book for those to plan to read it, i'm not sure realistic is the word i would use to describe how it all goes down, although i would see where someone is coming from if they judged it as such. when looking at teams i have worked on my problem seems to be drawing the line where that discussion NEEDS to take place, the line that when crossed the entire idea of risk/reward goes out the window and it becomes a matter of necessity. i don't look forward to that time, but i'm not naive enough to think it won't ever happen. thanks for the post laura!
